Sunoto Returns To Fight In ONE Championship After 2 Years Absence, Ready To Face Opponents From Myanmar

JAKARTA - Indonesian fighter Sunoto will return to the mixed martial arts (MMA) stage after a two-year absence. The 36-year-old athlete is scheduled to fight next month.

Sunoto is set to appear in ONE Championship's international MMA event titled ONE: BAD BLOOD against Myanmar's Tial Thang. The duel of the two will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 11 February 2022.

Quoting Antara, the man who was born in Blora, Central Java, will face Thang in a bantamweight division match. This will be a betting match for his career after last competing in Jakarta in February 2020.

The duel between Thang and The Terminator was scheduled for the middle of last year. However, it was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both athletes are currently in need of a win to push their way to the top of the bantamweight division. A win could pave their way to the top five.

Sunoto is one of the most experienced MMA athletes from Indonesia since starting his career on the global stage of ONE Championship in 2015. He recorded 10 wins or the most among other fighters in Indonesia.

Currently, Sunoto is being trained at Bali MMA. If he manages to beat Thang then he automatically deserves to be in the top row in his division and has the right to face the top fighters.

Tial Thang also has an important mission to get back on the winning track. The 28-year-old fighter had three consecutive wins in ONE Championship, including over Paul Lumihi, before suffering his first loss to Song Min Jong in mid-2021.

He is also hailed as one of the biggest MMA stars from Myanmar after Aung La N Sang. Prior to his foray into professional MMA, he was the country's wrestling champion with 500 wins.

Currently, Tial Thang trains at Sanford MMA in the United States with some of the top names, such as Aung La N Sang and Michael Chandler. The gym was also once the shelter for Kamaru Usman.
