Play 3 Set Match, Christopher Rungkat Breaks Into Men's Doubles Second Round At Australian Open 2022

JAKARTA - Tennis player Christopher Rungkat has reached the second round of the 2022 Australian Open from the men's doubles event.

Rungkat, who was paired with Filipino tennis player Treat Huey, got a second round ticket after defeating Rohan Bopanna (India) and Eduard Roger-Vasselin (France).

Rungkat and his teammates had to play three sets of 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2 to stay afloat at Melbourne Park.

Christo, as Rungkat is familiarly called, with his co-stars came to this year's Australian Open with status in the 150's. Currently, the 32-year-old tennis player is ranked 152, while his playing partner is ranked 137.

The Australian Open is not the first grand slam event that Christo has participated in. He has previously appeared at the French Open, American Open and Wimbledon.

From all these appearances, Christo is always paired with a tennis player from Taiwan, Hsieh Cheng-peng. However, the results are not satisfactory.

Christo's best achievement in a grand slam is reaching the second round at the French Open. The rest he always eliminated in the first round.

Meanwhile, Huey's achievement is far better in the most prestigious professional tennis event. He once reached the semifinals at Wimbledon 2016 when paired with Max Mirnyi.

He also has a good record at the Australian Open. He has made seven appearances in Kangaroo Country with the best achievements reaching the quarter-finals in 2014 and 2016.

Apart from Christo, another Indonesian tennis player who will appear at this year's Australian Open is Aldila Sutjiadi. However, he was eliminated in the first round along with his Thai co-star, Peangtarn Plipuech.
