JAKARTA - The parent of the Indonesian cycling sport (PB ISSI) announced that it will fund its athletes who are not included in the government's program budget. This was done to pursue their target at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi.

Head of PB ISSI Achievement Development Budi Saputra said that his party would participate in 12 events and maximize the quota of 15 male athletes and 15 female athletes.

"I know the team from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian Olympic Committee will verify our target, but we are asking permission from the sports coaching commission to fund our athletes who are not included in the government program because we want to maximize the athlete quota as stated in the technical guidebook," said Budi. in the information received by VOI.

PB ISSI has set a target for the 2021 SEA Games. The parent of this sport wants to bring home three gold medals from the biennial event.

If the target is met, it will exceed the achievements obtained at the previous edition of the SEA Games in the Philippines in 2019.

In the previous edition, cycling contributed one gold medal through Aiman ​​Cahyadi in the men's individual time trial. Besides gold, Indonesia also brought home four silver medals and two bronze medals.

At that time, Toni Syarifuddin and Tiara Andini Prastika won silver in the men's BMX and women's downhill time trials. At the same time, Aiman ​​helped Indonesia win two more silver medals in the men's team time trial and team mass start.

Meanwhile, Andy Prayoga won two bronze medals in the men's downhill and Ayustina Delia Priatna in the women's road race.

The Hanoi SEA Games were supposed to be held in 2021, but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the new schedule, this event will take place from 12 to 23 May 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
