After The Brutal Appearance In The 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, Vietnam Is Punished By FIFA

JAKARTA - The World's Highest Football Agency (FIFA) has imposed a strict punishment and fine on Vietnam. This follows Vietnam's brutal appearance in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

Quoted from Vietnamplus, Wednesday, FIFA sentenced the Vietnam national team to a fine of 6,000 Swiss francs, equivalent to Rp. 92 million. They received the verdict after collecting six yellow cards against Saudi Arabia in the 2022 World Cup Qualification match, last November 2021.

In the meeting with Saudi Arabia in the sixth match of Group B at My Dinh Stadium, Vietnam appeared brutal. Park Hang Seo's team committed 17 fouls which resulted in six yellow cards.

Under FIFA regulations, a team will be fined if it receives five or more yellow cards in one match. The fine was given as a form of punishment to teams deemed anti-sportsmanship.

Furthermore, regarding the yellow cards, in that match the six cards were given to Phan Van Duc, Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Que Ngoc Hai, and Nguyen Cong Phuong.

As a result, Que Ngoc Hai and Tuan Anh even got card accumulations and could not play against Australia in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, Thursday, January 27 next.

The same source also said that one of the reasons The Golden Star Warriors received many yellow cards and committed violations was because they were more often attacked by opponents who had better quality.

That pressure then made Park Hang Seo's team choose to focus on defending, so they often committed violations.

Despite the sanctions and fines imposed, Vietnam, which is in the Group B standings of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, is still slumped at the bottom of the standings. Park Hang Seo's foster children still haven't picked a single point in six matches.

Even so, Vietnam still has a number of matches remaining in the Group B phase. They will still face Australia, China and Japan.
