Down At 6 Multievents, 2022 Becomes Malaysia's Busy Year

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Malaysia Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria said 2022 will be a busy year with six multi-events rolling.

The first major event that the neighboring country contingent will participate in in 2022 is the Winter Olympics which will take place in Beijing, China on February 4-20. After that, Malaysia will also focus on facing the SEA Games Hanoi, Vietnam on May 12-23.

Then there is the Commonwealth Games or Commonwealth Games which will take place in Birmingham, England on 28 July-8 August. Another big agenda item is the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey on August 9-18.

In addition, Malaysia will also face the biggest sporting event in the 19th edition of the Yellow Continent, namely, the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on September 10-25.

Finally, the multi-event that will be the focus of the neighboring country in 2022 is the Asian Youth Games in Shantou, China on December 20-28.

"For 2022, let's work together to prepare the Malaysian contingent for six multi-events," said Norza Zakaria as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, January 5.

According to him, this year will be different from 2021 which is full of challenges. The only major event that Malaysia is participating in is the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which will take place on July 23-8 August 2021. In the biggest sporting event in the world, Malaysia won two medals, one silver and one bronze each.

"We are proud, Dato' Mohd Azizulhasni Awang donated a silver medal in the men's keirin bicycle event, while Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik contributed bronze medals in the men's doubles badminton at the Tokyo Olympics," he said.

"Thank you to all stakeholders in the field of sports, especially athletes, coaches, administrators and sports leaders for their hard work, sacrifices, and contributions to the activities that have taken place in 2021," concluded Norza Zakaria.
