Quartararo Opens Wide Opportunity To Move To Honda

JAKARTA - The reigning MotoGP champion, Fabio Quartararo, responded to rumors that he would switch to factory Honda after the 2022 season. Quartararo apparently did not rule out leaving Yamaha.

Quartararo's contract with Yamaha will still run until the end of the 2022 season. But the Japanese factory team has been predicted to continue to bind the rider until 2024, the plan is that the extension will also be carried out before the 2022 MotoGP starts.

Along with Quartararo's contract extension at Yamaha, Honda actually appeared to corner the rider. Quartararo is reportedly targeted by Honda to replace Pol Espargaro after the 2022 MotoGP.

Quoted from the US, related to the discourse, the racer did not cover it up. Quartararo instead said Honda's interest in him was a pretty good condition.

"We have a choice. It's better to be in a situation like this than the other way around, not having a motorbike (the club)," he said.

"This (Honda's interest) is in good condition and I don't want to rush in making decisions. I will take advantage of the time I have (while at Yamaha)," he continued.

Although he did not rule out moving to Honda after the 2022 season, Quartararo was also reluctant to brag about his career too early. As long as he is at Yamaha, he will continue to play his role as best he can.

"We've already talked about 2023 or 2024, but I'll take my time. It's not that I'm waiting, but I want to take it step by step." Quartararo said.

"It's too early to talk about what will happen," he said.

Please note, the 2022 MotoGP season itself will start on March 6 at Losail, Qatar. Staring at the start of the new season Quartararo didn't even feel any pressure.

However, before taking part in the series opener in Qatar, the riders will first undergo a pre-season test at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia on February 5 and followed by a second pre-season test at the Mandalika Circuit, Indonesia on February 11.
