Former Madrid Player Morata Will Defect To Barca, Can Go Down Against Los Blancos In The Super Cup

JAKARTA - It is reported that 95 percent of the Spanish national team striker Alvaro Morata will return to play in his country as a new Barcelona player.

Quoted by Antara from Spanish media AS, Tuesday, the former Real Madrid player is one step away from signing a contract with his former club's rival club on loan until the end of the season, with a permanent option.

Morata currently plays at Juventus, on loan from Atletico Madrid. He joined from Chelsea in July 2020 in a deal worth £58m.

According to AS, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Juventus for the loan of Morata for the next six months as well as an agreement with Atletico to make him permanent in the future.

Atletico have not yet fully paid Barca for Antoine Griezmann's loan, which includes the option to make the player permanent. This is said to be a factor for Atletico to release Morata to Camp Nou.

If this transfer materializes, then Xavi can already count on Morata for the Super Cup match against his former club Real Madrid on 12 January.

Morata will join Ferran Torres as a new signing at the Nou Camp, following his £55m move from Manchester City last week.

Barca are hoping to sell some players in the January transfer window to balance their balance sheet.

They have offered Philippe Coutinho to several other clubs in Europe, including English Premier League side Everton.

Defender Samuel Umtiti is also likely to be sold, while Ousmane Dembele's situation remains unclear after the player refused to sign a contract extension.

Dembele's contract expires at the end of the season and he is now in talks with clubs interested in signing him.
