Shin Tae-yong Uncovers The Main Cause Of The Defeat Of The Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - The first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup final became a bitter moment for the Indonesian national team because Thailand was massacred 4-0. Regarding the defeat, Shin Tae-yong uncovered the main cause that made the Garuda Squad helpless.

In the press conference after the match, Shin Tae-yong said that Chanathip Songkrasin's quick goal was one of the things that influenced his players' performances, so they lost by a landslide at the end of the match.

"Until the final the players did prepare themselves by working hard but many players were playing in the final for the first time, and also conceding goals very quickly that affected this match," said Shin Tae-yong Wednesday, December 29.

"Once the first half started we conceded so it was difficult for ourselves," he added.

In the match at the National Stadium, Singapore, Thailand immediately took the lead in the second minute through Songkrasin. He even scored the second goal against Indonesia in the 52nd minute.

It didn't stop there, the War Elephants became even more violent with the third goal in the 67th minute through Supachok Sarachat followed by a closing goal from Bordin Phala in the 83rd minute. Meanwhile, Indonesia with maximum efforts failed to penetrate the opponent's defense.

Furthermore, Shin Tae-yong also explained that another reason why the Garuda Squad failed to score was because many goal opportunities were wasted.

The South Korean coach highlighted Alfaeandra Dewangga's failure to take advantage of Indonesia's golden opportunity in the 41st minute. Dewangga, who was already in front of the goal, couldn't get the ball that was the result of Witan Sulaeman's hard work.

"We also have the best chance from (Alfeandra) Dewangga who can score a goal, should be able to change the result for the better," said Shin Tae-yong regretfully.

However, the South Korean coach admitted that Thailand played well in the first leg of the AFF Cup 2020. He is also tolerant of the defeat in this first leg but will still try to do better in the next leg.

"But we admit that Thailand is perfect and we have many shortcomings," he said.

"I admit this defeat and will prepare for the next match," said the coach.
