JAKARTA - Argentina goalkeeper Willy Caballero will make his Southampton debut when the team takes on Arsenal in a Premier League clash this weekend.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuettl said as quoted by Antara from Reuters on Friday, this decision was taken after the club's two main goalkeepers were still injured.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea goalkeeper joined the team this week on a short-term contract after Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy picked up injuries.

Southampton, who are 16th in the Premier League standings with 16 points, travel to Arsenal on Saturday for their first win in five games.

When asked at a press conference if Caballero would play at the Emirates, Hasenhuettl replied: "Yes, maybe."

"Alex is out for three or four weeks. Fraser has tried this week but it's still too early for him. So he's not going to make it and that's why we signed Willy and we're happy to have him here."

Arsenal has never lost at home to Southampton in a Premier League game and will be looking to bounce back from that loss to Everton earlier this week.

After a trip to north London, Southampton travels to Crystal Palace again four days before hosting Brentford the weekend after that.

Forster could be sent back during that game. Caballero, who left Chelsea at the end of last season is only under contract at Southampton until January 5.

Caballero is not known for his brilliant performances. At the 2018 World Cup, he made a fatal blunder when the Argentine national team lost three goals without reply to Croatia in the group stage.

At the start of the second half, Caballero, who received Gabriel Mercado's backpass, attempted to chip in to keep the ball away from the net.

However, Caballero's shot fell near Ante Rebic. The former Fiorentina striker immediately grabbed the ball and fired a volley which became Croatia's opener.
