Angry That Lewandowski Failed To Win Ballon D'Or, Muller: From A Bavarian Point Of View, It's Really Disappointing

JAKARTA - Bayern Munich players, including Thomas Mueller and Alphonso Davies, admit they cannot understand why their teammate Robert Lewandowski did not win the Ballon d'Or, which Paris Saint Germain's Lionel Messi won for the seventh time this year.

Lewandowski narrowly lost to get the Ballon d'Or because it is only 33 points adrift of Lionel Messi.

Many people think Lewandowski is unlucky to get this prestigious award considering that he actually performed brilliantly during 2021 by scoring 64 goals for club and country so that he continues to break the goal record.

France Football did award 'Striker of the Year' or best striker to Lewandowski so he didn't go home empty-handed, but there's no doubt that he actually came close to getting that award.

"From the point of view of a Bavarian, a Polish and a German, the news of the Ballon d'Or last night was disappointing", Muller wrote in his LinkedIn account quoted by Antara, Wednesday.

"Although I've been in this job for quite some time and therefore not surprised at results similar to Franck Ribery's in 2013, it all forms or reinforces my view that 'We have great players in the Bundesliga and we can't hide them. However, it was an international success that turned out to be far more important for global recognition", said Muller.

Their partner, Alphonso Davies, also expressed the same feeling. Speaking via Instagram live, the Bayern Canadian left-back could not hide his anger and anger over what happened to Lewandowski.

"I don't want to talk about this. To me, it doesn't make sense. I say that because if I talk too much then a lot of people will get hurt", said Davies.

"Lewandowski deserves to win that award. At least give this guy the Ballon d'Or since last year. I'm really angry. I want to throw anything".
