IBL Club Appoints Foreign Players For The 2022 Season, Here's The List

JAKARTA - As many as 15 participating clubs of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) have appointed foreign players who will strengthen the team for the 2022 competition season.

The decision was made at the recruitment of foreign players and rookie IBL Draft 2021 which was held virtually at Plaza Mandiri Jakarta, Wednesday night.

"19 of Indonesia's best young players have been selected and will take part in the 2022 IBL and 30 foreign players will show their abilities," said IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah as quoted by Antara from the league's official website, Thursday.

"The selected foreign players will come in the first week of December after all their documents and their requirements are complete," he added.

Several new names and old faces have returned to grace IBL 2022, such as Mike Glover, who was re-recruited by NSH Mountain Gold Timika, and Dior Lowhorn and Kevin Bridgewater who remain with Pelita Jaya Bakrie Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Louvre Surabaya must be willing to lose Michael Kolewale who two seasons ago defended his team, but is now recruited by West Bandits Solo.

In addition, Shayne Hayward, who once defended Satya Wacana, will join the new participating club IBL RANS PIK Basketball.

The IBL 2022 competition season is planned to be held again in several cities in Indonesia after the 2021 competition, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the league to take place with a bubble system in two locations, namely Robinson Cisarua Bogor and Mahaka Arena, Jakarta.

The Indonesian professional basketball league will also bring back foreign players after the 2021 season only consisted of local players.

There is also a plan to use foreign players in the next season has been submitted in the hearing process with the government such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).
