JAKARTA - Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says it is time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to leave Old Trafford, adding that the Norwegian "can leave with his head held high."

Solskjaer's United career was further jeopardized following the 0-2 home defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, November 6 and being thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool last month.

"From United's position before he came to where he took us at the start of the season, I think that's positive," Ferdinand said.

United have picked up just four points from their last six league games and are sixth in the table, nine points behind Chelsea at the top of the table.

While there is still no indication from United to make a managerial change in the near future, Ferdinand said he was "confused" when he saw Solskjaer's team play.

"I look at our team every week and wonder what we're going to do, tactically," the 43-year-old former defender added on his YouTube channel on Tuesday.

"I don't see philosophy or identity in United's way of playing, it's from management. I'm sitting here confused watching the team play."

Ferdinand also admitted he was never "completely convinced" about Solskjaer's ability to bring United back to the top of the Premier League.

"I've always been a little skeptical. Can he lead us to be champions? I'm not sure, I'm not entirely sure, but wish he could do that.

"However, with the performances with the squad he's formed at the start of the season and what I've seen this season, I just feel that maybe it's time to pass the baton on to someone else."
