JAKARTA - Militao believes he can play a key role as a replacement for Sergio Ramos. Militao will replace the Real Madrid captain in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 against Manchester City.

Ramos was sentenced to a red card at the Etihad Stadium on August 7. Meanwhile Zinedine Zidane's team are aiming to overturn their 1-2 defeat in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Militao has had a mixed season in his first season in the Spanish capital. However, the former Porto center-back said in an exclusive interview with Diario AS he was ready to take on the challenges ahead.

"This match is a great opportunity to show what I can do, and that I can count on in important matches," he said as quoted by Football Espana, Monday, August 3.

"Ramos will not play, and I will give everything if I am selected," continued Militao.

"I worked hard in training, and I believe I can do well."

Ramos did miss this match, however, as per a report from MARCA, he will travel to Manchester with the rest of the squad.

Zidane's main concern in regards to injury ahead of the match against Pep Guardiola's side is only with veteran left-back Marcelo.

The seasoned full back is still struggling with a thigh injury and will be replaced by Ferland Mendy. The French defender will side by side guarding the Los Blancos back line with Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal and of course Militao if played.
