JAKARTA - BYD is preparing to equip its luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, with very large capacity battery technology. The luxury electric sedan Yangwang U7 has been confirmed to come with a battery pack that allows a range of more than 1,000 kilometers in a single charge.

This information was revealed in the latest regulatory document released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT). In the document, the U7 pure electric battery (BEV) variant will be available with two battery options with a capacity of 135.5 kWh and 150.01 kWh.

The 135.5 kWh battery pack weighs 903 kilograms and offers a range of up to 800 kilometers based on CLTC standards. Meanwhile, the 150.01 kWh battery weighs 926 kilograms and can travel between 860 to 1,006 kilometers CLTC.

Based on the calculations of CnEVPost which was reported on Thursday, January 1, showed that the energy density reached 150 Wh/kg and 162 Wh/kg respectively. In addition to BEV, Yangwang U7 is also offered in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version.

This variant is equipped with a 52.4 kWh battery with a weight of 446 kilograms, which can provide a pure electric range of up to 200 kilometers CLTC. With these specifications, the latest version of the Yangwang U7 is positioned as the model with the longest battery range in the entire current BYD portfolio.

The Yangwang U7 is the first sedan from the Yangwang brand and was officially launched on March 27, 2025 as the third model after the U8 offroad SUV and the U9 electric supercar. Currently, the U7 is offered in four variants, two BEVs and two PHEVs with prices starting from 628,000 yuan or around 89,800 US dollars.

Although it is expensive for a Chinese domestic brand, the U7 remains the only Yangwang product priced under 1 million yuan. In terms of dimensions, this luxury sedan has a length of 5,265 mm, a width of 1,998 mm, and a height of 1,517 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm.

The U7 is built on Yangwang's e4 platform and relies on four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW. The total system output reaches 960 kW with a maximum torque of 1,584 Nm. The combination allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, placing the U7 in the ranks of high-performance electric sedans.

In terms of sales, the Yangwang brand recorded a distribution of 703 units of vehicles in November, bringing the total sales from January to November to 3,862 units. Specifically for the U7, November sales were recorded at 176 units, with a cumulative total since launch reaching 1,591 units.
