Changan Holds Global Testing Season 2026, Accelerates Progress in Sodium Ion Battery Technology

Changan Automobile, a Chinese automotive manufacturer, continues to innovate in many ways, and most recently Changan officially launched its global sodium-ion battery strategy and announced the start of the 2026 Global Testing Season.

Changan is accelerating the advancement of sodium-ion battery technology as part of its global battery strategy. Changan Automobile Group's Chief Brand Officer, Tan Benhong, stated that Changan will continue to launch new vehicles equipped with sodium-ion batteries in various brands in the near future.

"From extreme conditions to daily driving. Every search for limits at Changan ultimately aims to protect all our users on their daily journeys," Tan said in an official statement received, Thursday, February 19.

Vehicles equipped with sodium-ion batteries are now undergoing systematic system validation in extreme conditions with tests designed to verify the intrinsic performance and safety limits.

The results show that in extreme cold conditions, the sodium-ion battery system exhibits stable discharge capability, significantly improving the safety and performance of the battery in a very low temperature environment, with validation continuing to be carried out below minus 40 degrees Celsius.

To verify the intrinsic safety characteristics, Changan, in cooperation with CATL, conducted a series of extreme abuse tests that exceeded national standards. These included multi-axis crushing, drill penetration, and complete cutting - without smoke, fire, or explosion showing strong intrinsic stability.

Changan's user-oriented security is based on a pre-validation approach, where all critical testing and verification are completed before the vehicle reaches the customer. Behind this approach is a robust verification system and a globally leading laboratory network, which is the foundation of Changan's ability to provide comprehensive security in all scenarios.

This test is just the beginning, later Changan Global Testing Season 2026 will cover Southeast Asia for high humidity endurance and the European Alps for chassis tuning at high altitude points.
