JAKARTA - In the midst of the national automotive market, which is still full of challenges, PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) is still looking at 2026 with confidence. The Japanese manufacturer believes that its performance will improve and aims for a market share of up to two digits throughout the year.

President Director of PT MMKSI Atsushi Kurita, revealed Mitsubishi's sales performance last year exceeded the company's initial projection. He said that this achievement was supported by the strong contribution of a number of flagship models such as Destinator, Xpander, and Xforce.

"2025 Mitsubishi sales are approximately 71 thousand for retail sales with a market share of 8.4 percent which is actually better than our expectations at the beginning. The prediction for 2026 is approximately the same because there are no external factors that have been running until February," said Kurita at the IIMS 2026 event, JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Although last year's results were positive, Mitsubishi did not want to be satisfied quickly. The company is targeting a sales surge in 2026 with the ambition of penetrating a double-digit market share in a year.

"For 2026, we are aiming for a 2-digit market share. So we are targeting sales of 82-83 thousand units of vehicles (a year)," he said.

On the other hand, Kurita considers the role of the government to be crucial to encourage the achievement of this target. According to him, the weakening of people's purchasing power is a challenge that needs to be addressed together through policies that support the automotive industry.

"For government support, we are very much looking forward to better sales. I heard the government was discussing very strongly based on Gaikindo's input. There is an expectation of support because they understand the situation," he said.

He is also optimistic that if the support is truly realized, Mitsubishi sales in the country will start to move again. "I believe that with further support from the government, sales will increase," he concluded.
