JAKARTA - Xpeng is making a big move in Southeast Asia by choosing Malaysia to assemble vehicles locally, by signing an agreement with a partner in the country.

Previously, this Chinese manufacturer also chose Indonesia to assemble its cars at the PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) facility, Purwakarta, West Java. Indonesia became the first country outside the country.

Based on a report from CNevpost, Monday, December 15, the company has entered into a strategic partnership with EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB), and officially launched its local production process in Malaysia.

The project marks Xpeng's second local production initiative in the Asia-Pacific region and the third globally, with mass production scheduled for 2026.

"In Malaysia, partnering with a superior local partner is the most efficient and mutually beneficial market entry strategy," the company said in a statement.

Xpeng did not disclose which model would be produced first at the Malaysian facility, only stating that they would choose a strategic model tailored to the needs of the right-hand drive vehicle market and equipped with the company's core smart technology.

"Our goal is clear, to present a truly competitive smart electric vehicle product to Malaysian consumers," the company added.

So Xpeng started to make a pretty massive penetration after Indonesia, now Malaysia is also chosen to be produced locally.
