Geely recalls Emgrand due to potential fuel leak

JAKARTA - Geely announced a recall (recall) of the Emgrand model in the Philippines following the discovery of a problem with the fuel tank assembly. The obstacle has the potential to trigger fuel leaks due to the insufficient ventilation of the filler cap.

Citing the Autoindustriya website, Monday, December 15, the total units affected reached 562 vehicles produced in the period from August 3, 2023 to July 4, 2025. However, vehicle owners are asked not to worry because the company has prepared a number of handling steps.

Geely explained that this problem can cause an air gap inside the fuel tank. In certain rare conditions, this situation has the potential to cause tank deformation to trigger further leaks that can affect safety.

Even so, Geely ensures that affected customers can take advantage of free inspection services at all official Geely dealers. Through the inspection, the vehicle unit will be evaluated to determine whether repairs or replacement of fuel system components are required.

The Chinese brand, which has been present in Indonesia, also said that customers will be contacted directly. However, vehicle owners are still encouraged to contact the nearest dealer to ensure the status of their respective units.

In addition, Geely will send a notification via email to customers to confirm whether their vehicles are included in this recall program, so that repairs can be carried out immediately if necessary.

This recall campaign will last until August 2028, so Geely Emgrand owners still have enough time to bring affected units to dealers for inspection.
