Automotive Nostalgia, Trump's New Emissions Rules Open The Way For The Return Of The Wagon Station Model

JAKARTA The Trump administration has launched a controversial proposal that will cut fuel efficiency standards significantly in the United States. However, amid climate debates, this proposal brings a surprise that automotive fans may like, namely the potential return of classic family car Stations popular in the 70s and 80s.

The White House claims that the easing of this regulation will allow automakers to refresh models that are nearing extinction from the US market.

Launching Reuters, Friday, December 5, the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Total, openly voiced this optimism.

"This rule will really allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon, maybe a little side-by-side wooden panels,"village said in an interview with CNBC.

"We can return the choice to consumers, so yes, minivans are amazing, but maybe station wagons are cool too," he added.

Why Is Thegon Station Lost?

The Department of Transportation (NHTSA) explained that previous fuel efficiency regulations were unexpectedly close to eliminating station wagon production.

This is because Station Wagon is categorized as a passenger car (cars), which is required to implement stricter standards of efficiency.

Meanwhile, Minivans and Crossover Utility Vehicles (CUVs), which now dominate the market, are classified as light trucks, so they have looser standards.
