Kei Car BYD Racco Has The Opportunity To Be Sold In Indonesia?

JAKARTA BYD attracted great attention at the Tokyo Motor Show 2025 with the launch of its first Kei Car for the Japanese market, BYD Racco. Does the tiny car have the opportunity to be also presented in the Indonesian market?

BYD Racco in Japan is sold for around 2.6 million yen or the equivalent of IDR 275 million. This model is BYD's first product to be designed exclusively for markets outside China, as well as marking an important step in the company's global vision to support reducing carbon emissions.

This model is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 20 kWh, supports cepa7t charging of up to 100 kW, as well as a heat pump system to keep the cabin temperature comfortable in various weather conditions. The concise design makes it ideal for daily use, especially in urban areas with limited parking lots.

Does, BYD Racco also have the opportunity to be marketed in Indonesia? Head of Public and Government Relations BYD Motor Indonesia Luther T. Panjaitan, revealed that to bring him to Indonesia there is an opportunity, but still with several considerations first.

"Indeed, Racco's enthusiasm is quite high, especially just launched in Japan," said Luther at GJAW 2025, quoted on Tuesday, November 25.

"Because of that (Racco) made by BYD directly, it is very possible to be brought to Indonesia," he continued.

It is known, small cars in the kei car segment are the favorites of Japanese society. This tiny vehicle offers lower taxes, compact dimensions, and high efficiency, making it ideal for dense urban traffic and roads in Japan that are not too wide.
