Chery Affirms Ready To Help Indonesia Realize A National Car

JAKARTA - The automotive manufacturer from China, Chery, expressed its readiness to be involved in President Prabowo Subianto's big ambition to build the national car industry. If it is needed by the Indonesian government.

Chery stated that he would open the door as wide as possible if the government needed collaboration and was ready to encourage the strengthening of the domestic vehicle ecosystem. This was conveyed by the Marketing Director of Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) Budi Darmawan.

"We basically support, of course. As automotive actors, we will support whatever the government needs," Budi said when met in Bogor, West Java, recently.

This positive signal from Chery adds to the list of global automotive manufacturers who see great opportunities in the national car program. At the same time, open up space for potential strategic cooperation in the future.

Previously, Hyundai was also claimed to be interested in participating in this national car project. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, after meeting with the Hyundai delegation in Gyeongju, South Korea.

"We welcome Hyundai's interest in becoming part of a national car project. This shows the confidence of global investors in the potential of the Indonesian automotive industry," said Airlangga.

"We see great opportunities for collaboration in the development of hydrogen-based vehicles and other clean energy, which is an important part of Indonesia's green economy transition strategy," he continued.

However, Airlangga has not explained in detail the form of Hyundai's contribution to the project, including the amount of investment and its production scheme. However, on the other hand Prabowo has also appointed PT Pindad to work on a national car.

"I have received directions from the President through the Minister of State Secretary, where the President determined that the national car development through PSN was carried out or carried out by PT Pindad," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. , Wednesday, November 12.

In the meeting with PT Pindad, it resulted in an initial understanding between the Ministry of Industry and Pindad in preparing strategic steps for the construction of national cars. However, the Minister of Industry has not disclosed details about the location of the factory or the production capacity to be carried out.
