Hyundai warns customers about data breaches reportedly affecting millions of people. A report from Forbes, citing Hyundai AutoEver, a IT subsidiary of Hyundai Group, experienced a security breach earlier this year.
Quoting from Caranddriver, Tuesday, November 12, it was reported that the leak included the names, SIM numbers, and social security numbers of millions of people. According to the general version of the letter sent by Hyundai AutoEver to the affected parties, the company realized the security breach on March 1, 2025.
The letter confirmed that the security breach began on February 22 and was only resolved on March 2, 2025, meaning the attackers had violated security more than a week before they were caught.
According to an official statement, the breach occurred on Hyundai AutoEver America (HAEA)'s system, a subsidiary that handles digital services for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis in the region. The company has spent seven months investigating and has just started sending notification letters.
The company has not confirmed exactly how many people were affected by the attack, but the company's software has reached 2.7 million cars across North America. Only those affected by the leak will receive a notification letter.
In response to the attack, the company brought in a third-party cybersecurity team to assist in investigations and responses to the breach. In Hyundai AutoEver's letter to the affected parties, the company offers a free credit monitoring service for two years from third parties.

Hyundai representatives confirmed that the company was aware of the data leak and said the automaker was monitoring the situation to ensure appropriate precautions had been implemented.
According to the representative, Hyundai was not aware of any data on Hyundai Motor America or Bluelink drivers included in the data leak. It is known, the attack on Hyundai was not the first digital attack on car manufacturers.
Previously, Jaguar Land Rover was paralyzed by a cyberattack last September resulting in weeks of production termination and billions of dollars in revenue lost. Along with the increasing amount of personal information stored in the car, it is likely that car manufacturers will continue to increase.
