Indonesian Car Sales Drop 10.6 Percent, Toyota Kukuh In Puncak And BYD Tembus Six Besar

The competition for car manufacturers in Indonesia is getting hotter towards the end of 2025. Toyota is still immovable in the top position of national sales, while Hyundai has managed to penetrate the top 10 best-selling brands in the country.

Based on the latest data from Gaikindo seen on Monday, November 10, total sales of allesales January October 2025 reached 635,844 units. This figure is down 10.6 percent compared to the same period last year which broke 711,064 units. Retail sales also fell 9.6 percent to 660,659 units, from the previous 731,113 units.

Toyota again leads the market with the achievement of 202,376 units or controls 31.8 percent of the market share. Below it, Daihatsu, who is also under the Astra Group, posted 107,090 units. The third position is occupied by Mitsubishi Motors with 56,516 units, followed by Honda (50,270 units) and Suzuki (49,803 units).

Interestingly, the electric car manufacturer from China, BYD, is increasingly stealing attention after making 30,670 units and entering the sixth best-selling brand. Behind it are Mitsubishi Fuso (20,263 units), Isuzu (20,112 units), Chery (16,720 units), and Hyundai which completes the top 10 list with 16,594 units.

Although the national economy grew 5.04 percent in the third quarter of 2025, the automotive market is still experiencing a slowdown. Chairman I Gaikindo Jongkie Sugiarto, assessed that the low purchasing power of the people was the main factor holding back the sales rate.

"House consumption was recorded to only increase 4.89 percent on an annual basis, lower than the previous quarter," he said.

With these conditions, the national sales target of 850,000' 900,000 units is estimated to be difficult to achieve. Therefore, Gaikindo has high hopes for the 2025 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) event which will take place on November 21'30, 2025 at ICE BSD City, Tangerang.
