JAKARTA – Mazda has announced the recall of 5,081 vehicles in Australia, covering the CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90 models manufactured between 2023 and 2025. This measure was taken after a software issue was discovered that could pose a safety risk.

According to a Driveau report on Monday, September 22, the issue stems from a programming error in the Body Control Module (BCM), which controls the fuel gauge display. As a result, the instrument panel may display incorrect fuel level information, unknowingly discouraging drivers when the fuel tank is nearly empty.

This situation can be dangerous, because if the fuel runs out completely while the car is moving, the vehicle can suddenly lose power. This certainly increases the risk of an accident that could endanger the driver, passengers, and other road users.

This recall only applies to the 3.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine variants manufactured between 2023 and 2025.

Mazda Australia confirmed that it is preparing a software update to fix the issue. Once ready, affected customers will be officially contacted and asked to bring their vehicles to their nearest Mazda dealer. The software update will be free of charge.
