JAKARTA - Honda had a car that won its first F1 victory at the Mexican Grand Prix in 1965. The racing car is Honda RA272.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of his first Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) victory presents a limited edition of the legendary Honda RA272 racing car. This exclusive miniature was developed in high detail through collaboration with the Amalgam Collection, using authentic livery, original paint, and handmade body.

The 1:8 scale model consists of more than 1,600 precision components including a full replica of the Honda V12 racing engine, while a 1:18 scale version is also made at a similar level of accuracy. This Honda RA272 miniature comes in two scale choices, namely 1:8 which is very limited to only 30 units with a price of 28,995 US dollars and a 1:18 scale that is available as many as 300 units at a price of 1,735 US dollars or Rp28 million.

The process of making this model is based on high-precision digital scanning at the Honda Collection Hall as well as hundreds of car original photos in the 1965 season, especially from a historic victory at the Mexican GP.

For the 1:8 scale model, development takes more than 4,500 hours, while each unit requires 450 hours of work ranging from molding, installation, hearse, painting, to assembly.

Each unit is equipped with a special display box, certificate of authenticity, and a warning book signed directly by the President of HRC, Koji Watanabe. These two scale models were officially introduced at the Monterey Car Week 2025 event, at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, as well as Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion on 15 16 August 2025.\

Honda RA272 itself was designed for Honda's second season in the Formula 1 event with a 230-hp-powered V12 1.5 liter engine, which was then listed as the strongest engine in the racing world. The machine was able to rotate up to 12,000 rpm with a distinctive shrill noise, as well as feature revolutionary engineering innovations. RA272 made history in October 1965 whentai Ginther managed to deliver the car with chassis number RA272F-103 to victory at the Mexican Grand Prix.

The victory made RA272 the first Japanese car, engine and team to win in Formula 1. This achievement is a milestone for the birth of a new era of Japanese automotive technology, as well as affirming Honda's commitment to global innovation to date.

"This RA272 model is more than memorabilia, but an important part of our history in the world of motorsport. Racing has become Honda's DNA, and this model reminds us of where our success began," said Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) President Koji Watanabe, in his official statement received, Tuesday, August 19.

On the same occasion, General Manager, Merchandise and Memoranobilia, HRC US, Melizaferoni said, the Honda is very enthusiastic to be able to present this unique piece of Honda racing history to fans.

"Miniatur RA272 is a special addition to the HRC collection, and we can't wait for fans to see it live at Monterey Car Week," said Meliza.

Founded in 1985, the Amalgam Collection was known as the world's most iconic and luxurious car-scale model. The Amalgam team even traveled to the Honda Collection Hall in Motegi, Japan, to conduct digital scanning on the original RA272 car, so that each detail can be perfectly reconstructed on a small scale.
