Latest Study: This Is The Reason People Buy Electric Vehicles

Populix as a research company and provider of online survey platforms conducted a recent study entitled Electric Vehicles in Indonesia: Consumer Insights and Market Dynamics (Consumer Insights and Market Dynamics) released in July 2025.

One study absorbs several reasons why Indonesians buy electric vehicles. Interestingly, the study results show that many people buy electric vehicles because they care about the environment, not because of design or technology.

As many as 67 percent of respondents revealed the main reason for adopting electric vehicles was because they were free of air pollution, 60 percent because they were free of voice pollution, while 54 percent chose EVs because of their impact on positive environments.

"The most basic thing (to buy electric vehicles) is because Indonesians are now starting to be literate about the environment," said Associate Head of Research for Automotive Populix Susan Adi Putra, in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 1.

In addition to the reasons above, many adopt electric vehicles due to easy maintenance of the figure of 45 percent, then lower maintenance and maintenance costs 45 percent, low operating costs 41 percent and lower annual taxes 34 percent.

Not only that, but related to government regulations regarding electric vehicles is also a consideration, such as subsidies, which are at 34 percent and government regulations at 32 percent.

"Incentives from the government also support them to buy eventually, this greatly affects them, this plays an important role in addition to the environmental aspect," he added.

Interestingly, the driving range factor that is further per one time is battery charging, which should be an important consideration, is the last second, which is 19 percent, in the last position free from odd-even traffic regulations, as much as eight percent.
