Volkswagen Plans To Bring Cheap Electric Cars In 2027

JAKARTA - The emergence of affordable and quality electric cars from Chinese manufacturers and its rampant development have made Western manufacturers nervous. Not only Tesla, GM, and Ford, Volkswagen will also launch cheap electric cars by releasing the first official teaser for entry-level electric vehicles scheduled to arrive in 2027.

Quoting from the Carscoops page, Thursday, February 6, the electric car that is the entry level model will be priced at an initial price of 20,000 euros or around Rp340 million.

German producer CEO Thomas Schafer, described the car as affordable, high-quality and profitable and present from Europe for Europe. Meanwhile, it was stated in a post on Linkedin that its concept version would debut this March.

Although the German brand has not explicitly confirmed the name of the model, the model was previously referred to as ID.1, but a teaser image suggests that the model may be called ID.One. The model will be positioned under a forthcoming production version of the ID.2all concept (which has the potential to be named ID.Two), which will be launched a year earlier in 2026.

The teaser that reveals the front at first glance is similar to the VW ID.Life 2021 concept. Most likely this car will be a five-door hatchback with a slightly higher position, which emits a feel of the crossover.

The front light has 3D LED graphics integrated into black priors, along with a flaring VW emblem. Other highlights include a sleek DRL on the front bumper and carved spakbor, which shows large diameter rims. And you can also see the back of the infotainment screen installed on the dashboard.

This electric car will be built on the MEB platform used also along with ID.2all. Its compact size means it can be equipped with a smaller and more affordable battery pack, which is likely to be paired with one electric motor.
