Ministry Of Industry Supports Hydrogen Cars In Indonesia, This Is Toyota's Response

JAKARTA - Not long ago, the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang inaugurated the opening of Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2024 which took place at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

Present at the opening of the event, there was one car that caught his attention, namely Toyota Mirai. This car carries advanced technology using hydrogen as fuel.

"Toyota has presented Mirai with 100 percent hydrogen, that's why I came here," explained Agus in Tangerang after the opening ceremony, Friday, November 22.

He also said that his party was preparing supporting infrastructure for hydrogen vehicles as well as providing many environmentally friendly mobility options in the country.

"The most important thing is that the infrastructure is prepared," added Agus.

Responding to this statement, Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandi said that his party is very happy that the government supports the hydrogen ecosystem.

"So it is true that one of the reasons Mr. Agus came to GJAW was because he wanted to see Mirai directly. We go back to the minister whether the infrastructure can be fulfilled, but at least he can see and support this technology," said Anton.

Although the response generated was positive, Anton also explained that it would take a long time to prepare hydrogen supporting infrastructure.

"He (Kemenperin) also believes that in the future Pertamina can procure a revolving station for hydrogen. Because this requires infrastructure and it takes time," added Anton.

However, Anton also hopes that one day hydrogen technology can be applied in future mobility in Indonesia.

"Hopefully this hydrogen technology can be one of the options to enter Indonesia," said Anton.

Currently, Toyota is the market ruler in the hydrogen vehicle segment by producing Mirai globally. The sedan was launched in 2014 and has entered its second generation.

This long wheelbase car has three tanks to accommodate hydrogen which is also driven by lithium-ion 1.24 kWh and can produce 182 dk of power with the help of rear wheels driving.

This second-generation Toyota Mirai can be found directly in the GJAW 2024 event for 10 days from November 22 to December 1 at ICE BSD, Tangerang.
