Volvo Confirms XC90 Will Stay Alive As Long As There Are Still Enthusiasts

JAKARTA - Volvo has officially marketed its electric SUV called EX90. It is stated that the model is a flagship model of this brand that is plotted as a replacement for XC90.

However, the Swedish auto brand confirms that the XC90 model will continue to live in the coming years and will continue to present it in the pure ICE version.

"We will continue to update XC90 as long as there is still a request. This is an important car for us," said one of Volvo's representatives quoted from Auto Express, Thursday, November 14.

The SUV is the oldest model of a Volvo lineup with a second generation having shown its existence since 2015. For several years, manufacturers have offered XC90 in several variants, including millid-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Last September, XC90 came in the form of a facelift by increasing various aspects ranging from more comfortable interiors to promoting technology.

Unlike the previous version, XC90's facelift got a revision to the front light, known as the "Thor Hammer" with a new diagonal patterned grip that made it look newer.

Speaking of performance, the T8 variant carries the PHEV system with a 306-dk gasoline engine with a 143-dk electric motor, which has an electric battery capable of providing a distance of 70 km according to the WLTP.

Of course, this XC90 lags behind compared to its rivals such as the TIGuan PHEV which can provide range with pure electricity up to 113 km in one charge and the Audi Q7 PHEV offers 84 km.

Volvo also provides the 48V mid-hybrid variant in the B5 variant which has a 247-dk gasoline engine and a 296-dk-powered B6 type. Both also offer a turbocharged system and promise to increase efficiency in fuel consumption.

Volvo XC90 facelift has been available and is scheduled to start production from late 2024, followed by its first unitary delivery to customers.
