MG's Long-Term Commitment In Indonesia, Collaborates With UABS To Build Electric Car Batteries In Indonesia

Morris Garage (MG) continues to innovate in Indonesia and shows a strong commitment to the Indonesian automotive market, by not only presenting a variety of car models but also other investments, including the inauguration of battery assembly lines.

The factory in question is the result of collaboration from the parent company SAIC and CATL, both of which have a 67 percent shareholding (SAIC 51 percent-CATL 49 percent), while the remaining 33 percent is owned by the Kentjana Group. The results of the collaboration gave birth to PT Unified Advanced Battery System Indonesia (UABS).

As a first step taken by UABS, the company will produce batteries for the Morris Garage brand which is indeed under the auspices of SAIC. The assembly plant is located in the Greendland International Industrial City (GIIC) area, Kota Deltamas, Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

MG Motor Indonesia's Chief Operating Officer, He Guowei, said that the assembly of batteries in Indonesia had a positive impact, especially in full-sale services.

"With this factory (battery) it will be very helpful if there is a malfunction or damage to the battery, and it will be faster to prepare for repairs because the battery is already here," he said, when met in the Cikarang area, Tuesday, November 5.

On the same occasion, Managing Director of UABS Co. LTD Guo Junhua revealed that the assembly of electric car batteries at least poured funds of 50 million yuan or around Rp110.98 billion.

"We can see from President Prabowo that we really support renewable energy, I believe I can encourage the government to provide energy and electric vehicle batteries in Indonesia," said Guo Junhua.

As mentioned above, this factory assembles batteries supplied from CATL. The value of the TKDN (domestic component level) of the battery is only around 10 percent which will be increased over time.
