EVs Are Increasingly Popular, But What About Security? This Is The Importance Of The Right APART

JAKARTA - The automotive world is now enlivened by various electric vehicles (EVs) from various brands. This is certainly in line with the global trend of the importance of a sustainable ecosystem to reduce emissions.

However, behind its popularity, EV security is still something that often escapes attention. Both EV cars and motorbikes have batteries and flammable materials.

According to Rachmat Rezki ST, MBA, President Director of PT Indolok Bakti Utama, all vehicle owners are required to have a Light Fire Extinguisher (APAR). Unfortunately, this is still ignored by many vehicle users, especially cars.

"The fire is mandatory in all vehicles. However, many cars in Indonesia do not have fire extinguishers, so they are not safe," said Rezki when presenting the material in the Indonesia Center for Mobility Study (ICMS) talk show at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Wednesday, July 24.

Furthermore, Rezki explained that EVs are generally flammable because they use lithium-ion batteries that react with materials such as magnesium. This makes the fire difficult to extinguish.

"This combination of lithium and magnesium batteries can cause the car to catch fire," explained Rezki.

He added that the EV battery consists of several cells that are interconnected. If one cell is damaged and burned, the other cell will also catch fire, so that the fire grows rapidly.

"The EV battery consists of several cells. If one cell is damaged and burned, it will be very difficult to extinguish," added Rezki.

Fortunately, this problem can be solved by providing the right APAR. Rezki explained that APAR for EVs must have a combination of several classes, not just anyone.

"APARTs for EVs must include class A (solid fuel), B (liquid), C (electric problem), and special class lithium-ion batteries," said Rezki.

Indolok itself has a product called Gunnebo Ultima Lith Pro which is specially designed to extinguish fires in electric vehicles. This APAR uses the F-500 EA molecule which is capable of controlling gas and flammable liquids, as well as capsulating fires as a whole.
