Follow Tesla And Audi, Volvo Will Launch Battery Passports For All EV Models

JAKARTA - Electric vehicle owners, especially for the European market, will get additional information about their cars, where starting in 2027 all electric vehicles must have battery passports.

Quoting from the page, Drive, Tuesday, June 11, Swedish manufacturer Volvo is one of the manufacturers that will present battery passports for electric vehicle units, especially the EX90 SUV by the end of the year in Europe and America.

The battery passports in question display information related to the composition of vehicle batteries including where the raw materials come from, the recycling content, and the carbon footprint of vehicles.

Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, production of EX90 equipped with a battery passport is said to be starting production at a Volvo plant in feasibility South Carolina, with deliveries to Europe and North America due from the second half of this year.

Head of Global Sustainability Volvo Vanessa Butani, said that battery passports would eventually be added to all Volvo electric vehicle models, but had not yet determined when to be equipped.

As is known, Volvo battery passports will be created in collaboration with British company Circlor, one of the few companies that made this particular document, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code attached to the inside of the driver's door.

Head of Chief of External Circlor revealed that the new technology is beneficial for new car manufacturers and car buyers.

He further revealed that there is something interesting about this battery passport where detailed information about upstream activities is distributed to end consumers, thus providing them with purchasing information and purchase options.

As is known, the US electric car giant Tesla was the first manufacturer to test and introduce battery passports, as shown in the company's 2022 Report. In fact, Tesla and Audi have launched proof of concept for battery passport versions in 2023, as part of the Global Battery Alliance.
