JAKARTA - Recently, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) officially signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Matrix Renewables, an energy-based development company in Madrid, Spain.

The plan is that HMG will buy the power plant for the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) factory in Georgia, United States (US), as well as other factories in Uncle Sam's country.

As written on the company's website, Wednesday, April 24, the group will purchase a generating capacity of 147 megawatts (MW) from Matric Renewables Stillhouse Solar Project in Bell County, Texas, USA, which has a total generating capacity of 210 MW.

This effort is expected to gain around 378 GWh of electricity each year and reduce carbon emissions by 140,000 tons each year. This initiative reflects HMG's commitment to utilizing renewable energy in its manufacturing facilities around the world.

HMGMA itself is projected to specifically assemble electric vehicles (EVs) and other factories as suppliers of spare parts, steel plates, and others.

HMGMA is one of HMG's first EV mass production plants in the US. This facility will start producing environmentally friendly vehicles for the Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation brands in the fourth quarter of this year.

Other group affiliates, such as Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain LLC, Hyundai Steel Georgia Inc., and Hyundai Transys Georgia Powertrain Inc., will simultaneously join this agreement in strengthening the sustainable supply chain with renewable energy.

Starting with this PPA, the company will invest and contract for renewable energy conversions at its facilities in America this year. In addition, Hyundai plans to convert to renewable energy in their manufacturing facilities around the world through collaboration with various parties.
