BMW Series-5 Wins Top Three Positions Of Best Luxury Car World Car Of The Year 2024

JAKARTA - Launched in May last year, BMW Series-5 and i5 were named the top three at the World Car of the Year 2024 in the World Luxury Car category along with two models from rival brands Mercedes-Benz E-Class and EQE SUV.

The premium-style sedan officially defeats other rivals in the category, ranging from Lexus, Hiphi, Hongqi, Ineos, Nio, and Voyah.

According to worldcarawards.com alerts, Wednesday, February 28, a number of cars participating in this award have met several requirements, covering a production volume of at least 5,000 units/year, priced equivalent to luxury vehicles in the main market, and sold in at least two regions between China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the United States with at least two separate continents in the period January 1, 2023 and March 30, 2024.

BMW Series-5 has a classic three-box design with a long hood and Hofmeister kink accent that gives it a modern twist. BMW remains loyal to embedding the manufacturer's signature kidney grip, although its size is not as big as it is on i4 or M4.

This car carries advanced technology from digital dashboards with an information screen covering an area of 12.3 inches that is placed behind the steering wheel, as well as a well-integrated 14.9-inch control display. The installed Curved Display touch screen uses the BMW OS 8.5 operating system, equipped with the latest graphics and Quick Select which facilitates access to information.

This premium sedan is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine that can produce up to 208 dk of power. The gasoline variant also offers a plug-in hybrid and diesel driver with a 6-cylinder for the European market.

Meanwhile, BMW i5 as the electricity version of this series is presented in two variants, consisting of eDrive40 which is capable of producing 335 dk of power and 400 Nm of torque and M60 xDrive with a larger power of 590 dk and 743 Nm of torque.

These two variants are equipped with a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 84.3 kWh, allowing BMW i5 eDrive40 to cover a distance of up to 474 km with one charge. Meanwhile, when the battery is fully charged, the i5 M60 xDrive variant can cover a distance of up to 411 km.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class and EQE SUV

This luxury car carries a distinctive design of a wheelbase brand that is long, so it almost resembles a limousine. This sedan is also equipped with several sophisticated devices.

There are five cameras on the interior, one camera to monitor the driver to always pay attention to the road, two camera lenses that can help the advanced driver system, then there is a movement camera in the overhead control panel which is part of the MBUX Interior Assistant feature.

Finally, there are two RGB cameras with one camera on the dashboard and one selfie camera that creates video conferencing such as Zoom and even makes TikTok videos in the car.

The manufacturer nicknamed the'silver panah' offers two trims to this model, one of which is E 350 equipped with a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine with a milli-hybrid system electric motor, so that it can pump 255 dk of power and 399 Nm of torque.

In addition, there is also E 450 which offers a 6-cylinder engine as fresh as turbo to join a mild-hybrid system that reaches up to 375 dk of power and a 500 Nm torque.

The last is the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV which is the only utility vehicle in the top three of this World Luxury Cars category. This model shares architecture with the sedan version of EQE, namely the Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) developed by the company.

In addition, this car is equipped with a Digital Light headlights and gets a touch from the AMG Line on the front bumper and is presented with a high-gloss chrome door handle.

Similar to the EQS SUV, the EQE SUV comes with Airmatic air suspension with customizable ADS+ damping, also equipped with extraordinary maneuverability.

One of the variants, namely EQE 500 4 Matic equipped with a dual electric motor offers 402 dk of power and torque 858 Nm which can spur acceleration from 0 to 100 km/hour in 4.9 seconds. Mercedes-Benz gives him a 90.6 kWh battery that gives a range of 552 km.
