JAKARTA - Stellantis NV and CATL announced the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the local supply of LFP battery cells and modules to support the production of Stellantis electric vehicles in Europe.
This move is in line with Stellantis' aggressive electrification strategy, and currently the two companies are considering the possibility of forming a joint venture with equivalent contributions.
This MoU, as disclosed on Stellantis' official website, November 21, details the long-term collaboration between CATL and Stellantis in two strategic areas. This includes the construction of an ambitious technology roadmap to support Stellantis' latest battery electric vehicle, as well as the identification of opportunities to strengthen battery value chains.
"MoU with CATL on LFP battery chemicals is an important element in our long-term strategy to ensure mobility sustainability for the European middle class," said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
Furthermore, he stated that CATL, as an industry leader in the battery sector, will bring innovative and easily accessible technology through this collaboration.
"This collaboration will also help us achieve zero carbon ambition by 2038," he added.
At the same time, General Manager CATL welcomed this collaboration, believing that this partnership would be a real step towards carbon neutrality.
"We will continue to be committed to providing more competitive and sustainable solutions, encouraging a global energy transition," he said.
