JAKARTA - Toyota's new CEO, Koji Sato, said that hydrogen vehicles will become the backbone of the Japanese brand in the future. He said, compared to hydrogen vehicle electricity, it is the most appropriate to achieve carbon neutrality. He made this statement when interviewed by Automotive News on March 18.

For hydrogen cars, since 1992 Toyota itself has invested seriously by starting the development of hydrogen technology. And only succeeded in in introducing Mirai sedans to the world market in 2014.

The latest generation of Mirai, launched in 2021, also carries FCEV (vehicle engine driven by electric motors but fueled by hydrogen) technology to a higher level.

The fuel cell system is also designed to be comprehensively lighter and more powerful. Combined with smart packaging and increased aerodynamic efficiency, this car has expanded its driving range to about 650 km, with no emissions other than pure water. Even in 2021, Toyota Mirai broke the world record after driving 1,003 km on a single charge.

Hydrogen electric cars only emit water vapor as a result of combustion, so there is no emission that damages the environment. This is very different from gasoline or diesel-powered cars that produce harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and fine particles.
