SEA V Cup 2026: Indonesia Wins Dramatically over Vietnam

JAKARTA - The Indonesian women's volleyball national team managed to bounce back from a deficit to win a dramatic victory over Vietnam in the first match of the second round of the 2026 SEA V Cup.

Indonesia was on the verge of defeat when they were two sets behind, but managed to turn the tide and close the match with a score of 3-2 (20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 15-9) in a duel that took place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Arsella Nuari Purnama and Ersandrina Devega became the driving force for Indonesia's victory after each contributed 20 points in this match. Meanwhile, in the Vietnamese camp, P.Q. Huong appeared as the highest scorer with 25 points.

Luciana Taroreh as the manager of the Indonesian women's volleyball national team admitted that she was very grateful for the positive results achieved by her team.

"Thank God, today the team managed to win 3-2 over Vietnam in a very tight match. The players showed good fighting spirit and mental strength when facing pressure," he said.

Luciana assessed that the victory over Vietnam was an important preparation for the next match at the 2026 SEA V Cup. However, the coaching team will still make an evaluation.

"This victory is important to increase the team's confidence, but we will still evaluate to improve some aspects of the game ahead of the next match," he said.

This result was also Indonesia's revenge after losing 1-3 to Vietnam in the first round. At that time, the Garuda Pertiwi squad won one out of three matches played so that they failed to reach the semifinals.

Indonesia will then face Thailand on Saturday, August 8, 2026 and the Philippines on Sunday, August 9, 2026. In the previous meeting in the first round, Indonesia lost to Thailand and won over the Philippines.
