2026 Asian Games 3X3 Basketball Draw Results: Indonesia Has a Tough Opponent

JAKARTA - The results of the 3X3 basketball draw for the 2026 Asian Games have officially been announced. The Indonesian women's and men's teams have opponents who are considered quite heavy on paper.

The four-year multi-branch sports festival of Asian countries will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. From the basketball branch, the 3X3 number is also contested.

From the results of the draw released by the committee, the Indonesian Men's 3X3 Basketball National Team (National Team) is in Pool C with Qatar, Bahrain, and China Taipei, which is the defending champion.

Overall, there are 16 men's teams competing in the 2026 Asian Games and divided into four groups. Pool A is inhabited by Mongolia, the Philippines, Kazakstan, and Sri Lanka. Then, Pool B has China, Iran, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Finally, Pool D is inhabited by Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand.

Head Coach of the Indonesian Men's 3X3 Basketball Team, Nico Donnda Fitzgerald, said that there was no easy group in the 2026 Asian Games. He assessed that all matches have unique challenges and strategies in the 3X3 concept.

"I personally am a little more familiar with China Taipei. This country is the most active in the 3X3 event compared to Qatar and Bahrain. They have players with a fairly good average height and even shooting ability," he said.

From the women's sector, the draw results put Indonesia in Pool D with Thailand, South Korea, and Singapore. Just like the men's category, a total of 16 teams compete in the women's category and are divided into four groups, each containing four teams.

Pool A is inhabited by China, Kazakstan, Qatar, and Sri Lanka. Then, Pool B has Japan, Chinese Taipei, Iran, and Uzbekistan. Finally, Pool C is filled by Mongolia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Macau.

The 3X3 basketball matches of the 2026 Asian Games will take place from September 21 to September 25, 2026. All matches are concentrated at Kinjo Futo Station Square.

The 3X3 basketball competition at the 20th Asian Games is predicted to be full of surprises because the regulation only allows players under the age of 23 to play.

Indonesia circumvented this regulation by maturing the U-23 players. They were sent to various Challenger and Women's Series championships in one team, to face senior players and the best teams in the world.
