JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, officially appointed Suyadi Parwiro as the Secretary of the Minister of Youth and Sports (Sesmenpora) and Teuku Arlan Perkasa Lukman as Deputy for the Development of the Sports Industry.
The inauguration ceremony for the two deputy high officials was held at the Kemenpora Media Center, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, July 10, 2026. This inauguration is also part of the strengthening of the Kemenpora organization to improve the quality of bureaucratic services and encourage the development of the national sports industry.
Erick said that the position of Deputy for the Development of the Sports Industry has a strategic role because sports should no longer be seen as a mere burden on the budget, but as a sector that is capable of generating added value for the country through the sports industry and ecosystem.
"Sports are sometimes considered a cost center. In fact, if we talk about achievements, it is national branding. If we talk about the sports industry and sports tourism, it is revenue or income for the country," said Erick in a press statement after the inauguration.
Suyadi is not a new figure in the Ministry environment. Previously, he had a career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Suyadi expressed gratitude for the trust given to him to hold the position of Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He emphasized that his main focus was strengthening the internal services of the ministry so that it would have an impact on improving the services to the parent organization of sports and the community.
"Our task is to ensure that the service is running well so that it has an impact on the service to the sports community, as well as increasing the capacity of human resources in the Kemenpora environment," said Suyadi.
Suyadi also admitted that there were still complaints about the slowness of bureaucratic services. Thus, improving governance and accelerating services will be one of the immediate tasks under his leadership as the Minister of Sports and Youth.
"We can't promise that everything will be completed immediately, but we will work as best as possible so that the services at the Ministry of Youth and Sports will be faster and the governance will be better," he said.
Meanwhile, Teuku Arlan was selected through an open selection process which was followed by hundreds of participants until finally he was determined as the best candidate.
Teuku Arlan admitted that it took him some time to adapt to the bureaucratic environment because he had not previously worked as a civil servant (ASN).
"I will carry out the direction of the Minister. Sports is not a cost center, but a revenue center that is able to drive sports achievements and community sports as a long-term investment," he said.
He explained that the development of the sports industry would be directed at managing sports assets, organizing participatory sports events, and strengthening spectator sports by involving the private sector so that it does not only depend on government budgets.
"With the existence of the sports industry, hopefully, the achievements of sports and community sports can continue to develop to increase human resources. As the Minister said, this is an investment for the future," he said.
Suyadi and Teuku Arlan are also expected to ensure that all Kemenpora programs really provide a real impact for athletes, youth, the community, and support the Government's policies in the fields of youth and sports.
