JAKARTA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) will form a cross-sectoral coordination team to mature the preparation for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON), especially regarding funding, venue use, to budget management.
The formation of the team is the result of a joint agreement with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Center, the Attorney General's Office through the Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administration (Jamdatun), and the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
"We agree to form a coordinating team. We will invite from the region what the mapping is like before we report to the Central Government for the implementation of the 2028 PON like this perspective," said Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Erick Thohir in Jakarta.
The appointment of the coordinating team was carried out with the aim of ensuring that the largest multi-branch sports event in Indonesia could run successfully, both in terms of implementation and financial management.
Erick also reiterated that the 2028 PON must be carried out efficiently in accordance with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto so that it can be ensured that there will be no new venue construction.
"So far, there have been many developments for PON venues and they are not used later, finally a waste. In many areas, there are many venues that are not used and can no longer be used," he said.
The decision not to build a new venue makes the Government will optimize the venue that is already available in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as the province that hosts the four-year sports festival.

The Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administration (Jamdatun), Narendra Jatna, stated that his party was ready to provide legal assistance so that the entire process had a strong administrative foundation.
"We will accompany and provide legal opinions and also oversee the governance so that this becomes a whole part that we all want PON 2028 to be successful," said Narendra.
Meanwhile, the Deputy for Government Institutions Supervision for Community Empowerment and Food BPKP, Susilo Widhyantoro, emphasized that supervision would focus on the effectiveness and efficiency of budget use, ranging from procurement of goods, preparation of supporting infrastructure, to accommodation of athletes.
