JAKARTA - The Indonesian Mixed Martial Arts Association (PB Pertacami) is immediately busy preparing athletes to face four international events that will take place in the rest of this year after successfully holding the 2026 National Tournament (Kejurnas).
The General Chairman of PB Pertacami Tommy Paulus Hermawan ensured that Indonesian athletes in the coming month will participate in the GAMMA Asia Championship 2026 single event on July 21-26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
"Our athletes will definitely compete there even though it is a single event," Tommy told the media at the beginning after closing the PB Pertacami National Championship at JSI Resort Megamendung, Bogor, West Java.
After that, the national mixed martial arts parent will send athletes to participate in the 2026 Asian Games multi-branch sports festival in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. So far, there have been four athletes who have qualified and three on the waiting list.
The other two events after that are the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December, and the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) World Championship, whose date has not been announced.
"So at least there are four more events that our athletes will participate in this year," said Tommy, who also serves as President of GAMMA Indonesia.
The PB Pertacami 2026 National Games was recorded as attended by as many as 128 athletes from 51 clubs spread across 12 provinces. The event competed in 21 race numbers and was attended by athletes from the senior, U-18, U-16, and U-14 categories.
The implementation of the National Games is part of the talent development and monitoring program to recruit potential athletes for various international agendas, especially the four events mentioned above.
In addition to being a competition, the Kejurnas is also part of efforts to build a sustainable foundation for the development of Indonesian MMA and support the development of mixed martial arts in the international sports ecosystem.
Tommy said that the quality of the match and the enthusiasm of the participants showed the future of Indonesian mixed martial arts which is increasingly promising.
"Today we are celebrating the champions, but more importantly, we see the birth of a new generation of Indonesian MMA athletes. The championship is not the ultimate goal, but a gateway to national training and the international stage," he said.
