JAKARTA - The University Boxing League (UBL) will strive to help strengthen Indonesian boxing at the international level after completing the 2026 National UBL at the end of tomorrow which is the final round of Season I.

UBL President Sandri Karamoy said that their long-term plan was to be able to produce student fighters who were not only considered nationally, but also had to be recognized on a much larger stage.

"After we compete in the national season, we will try to bring one person from the student representative with the highest points to be compared to the international world," said Sandri in a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, April 17.

After the final round of Season I, UBL will still hold a roadshow in the Jabodetabek area to bring together campus representatives from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi to re-select the best talent.

The participants who pass will compete again at the national level in the next season before finally being selected by one student with the highest points who is ready to be tested at a higher level.

Sandri emphasized that these stages must be carried out because the fighters at the student level are not actually professional athletes so they still need ongoing training before being issued.

"So when they win, we have to train them to the maximum because competing in the international arena needs a lot of materials and training. That is our main homework," he said.

The final round of UBL Season I is scheduled to take place on May 23, 2026. This is the culmination of the UBL Roadshow series which has reached six provinces in Indonesia and involved more than 60 universities and 280 student participants.

Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Boxing Association (Perbati) Hengky Silatang said that his party was ready to choose objectively and help the best potential that emerged from this event.

"From all over Indonesia who are under Perbati and Indonesian boxing, we will support them to be able to engage at the international level. Hopefully, great boxers will replace someone like Ellyas Pical or Chris John," he said.

A total of 18 best students will compete for nine national championship belts from various weight categories at the peak of the national roadshow.

In addition to the main match, the National UBL will also present special matches from the best influencer fighters selected from the previous five roadshow events, namely El Yusuf vs Danil Saputra, Rafky Boy vs Capung, Alvian Bakker vs Faje, Winona Karamoy vs Guest Star (to be announced soon).
