KONI asks Teqball Indonesia to pursue world achievements

JAKARTA - KONI Pusat Chairman Marciano Norman encouraged Teqball Indonesia not to stop at the status of a new sports branch. After appointing the Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Teqball Sports Association (PP POTSI) for the 2023-2028 term, Jovinus Carolus Legawa, and his team, Thursday, April 9, Marciano asked teqball to immediately be directed to seize world achievements.

"New sports like this provide opportunities for Indonesia to be at the forefront in terms of achievements. Our hope is that Indonesian athletes will occupy an honorable achievement at every international championship," said Marciano at the KONI Central Office, Senayan, Jakarta.

Teqball is a sport that combines football and table tennis that is played on a curved table with a football ball. The branch of the sport from Hungary is now growing rapidly and has begun to be noticed in various international events.

Marciano emphasized that this great opportunity must be answered with proper coaching. According to him, after successfully appearing as an exhibition at the XXI PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024, teqball cannot be allowed to run without direction.

"We have to start organizing the coaching of Teqball sports," he said.

Chairman of the PP POTSI Jovinus Carolus Legawa, who is familiarly called Calvin, said that teqball continues to grow globally. According to him, the sport already has a world league and has begun to be competed at the Asian level.

"Teqball is a sport from Hungary that is quite popular in the world," said Calvin.

In the country, PP POTSI admitted that it continued to encourage coaching. The organization has held four national championships and national selections. In addition to teqball, there are also other numbers such as teqvolly and tengpong.

The KONI's encouragement came when the results of Indonesian athletes began to be seen. Throughout 2025, Indonesia won three silver medals and two bronze medals at the Thailand SEA Games. Young athlete Zahrotus Syifa also won a bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.

Sumaya, a female athlete from Riau, even became the first Indonesian to climb the podium at the 2025 World Tour Teqball Championship in Bangkok. Previously, Indonesia also brought home two silver medals when teqball appeared as a demonstration branch at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
