PBSI Apologizes for Failing to Meet Target at All England 2026

JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) apologized after failing to meet the target of getting one title from the 2026 All England event which just ended last weekend.

Head of PP PBSI Training and Achievement, Eng Hian, said that the failure of the Indonesian badminton team in the oldest event would be the subject of a thorough evaluation by the federation, especially the strategy of the match and consistency of performance in the crucial phases.

"We also understand that the expectations of the Indonesian people for badminton are very high, especially in tournaments like the All England. For this reason, we apologize for not being able to meet the target," he said in a statement received.

Indonesia has a total of 13 representatives in the BWF Super 1000 level tournament. However, the best journey was only obtained by the young pair of Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin who managed to reach the semifinals.

The pair of Australian Open 2025 title holders defeated fifth seeds Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and third seeds Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang (China) on their way to the last four before losing to Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae who emerged as champions.

Eng Hian said that Indonesia's failure to get the title could be treated by the progress of young players, especially Raymond/Nikolaus, who could provide resistance to the elite men's doubles in a tournament as big as the All England.

"Of course, we give special appreciation to Raymond Indra/Joaquin who managed to advance to the semifinals. On the way, they were able to beat the fifth seeded pair and the third seeded pair," he said.

This is the second consecutive year that Indonesia has returned home without a title from All England since the men's singles Jonatan Christie and men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto climbed to the highest podium in the 2024 edition.
