Win Against Genoa, AS Roma Overtakes Juventus

JAKARTA - AS Roma also heated up the competition at the top of the Italian Serie A after winning 3-1 over Genoa in a match at the Olimpico Stadium, Tuesday, December 30, 2025 WIB. The victory brought Roma to fourth place and displaced Juventus.

Roma slowly showed consistency and maintained the competition at the top. Previously, Roma lost momentum and was thrown out of the top four after suffering a loss against Cagliari and Napoli with the same score of 1-0.

The capital team also lost points when they were forced to surrender 2-1 in the big match against Juve. However, they returned to the winning track by rolling Como 1907 with a 1-0 victory.

Finally, I Giallorossi defeated Genoa which made them return to the Champions League zone by ranking fourth.

Now, Roma has 33 points. They are three points behind Inter Milan who are at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Juve who dropped to fifth place has 32 points.

Genoa itself, which was handled by Roma legend Daniele De Rossi, must be alert because they are at the bottom of the table. They are ranked 17th or one strip above the relegation zone with 14 points. Genoa is only two points ahead of Hellas Verona, which is in 18th place.

Roma, who played at home, tried to play aggressively to put pressure on the opponent's defense. The defeat against Juve pushed the team coached by Gian Piero Gasperini to rise. Moreover, Roma can field the best squad even though they are minus Evan Ndicka and Neil El Aynaoui who appeared in the African Cup.

They also didn't have to wait long to break the Genoa goal through Matias Soule in the 14th minute. It started with the brilliant action of defender Jan Ziolkowski who cut off Genoa's ball who was about to counterattack.

Ziolkowski's long pass went to the visiting team's goal and was blocked by defender Johan Vasquez. The ball was then intercepted by Soule who fired without being able to be saved by goalkeeper Daniela Sommariva.

The 1-0 advantage made Roma play more offensively. They also showed higher ball possession so that Roma's attacks often threatened Genoa's defense. It turned out that just five minutes later, midfielder Manu Kone managed to increase the home team's advantage.

It started with a cross from defender Gianluca Mancini which was received by Evan Ferguson in front of Genoa's goal. Ferguson then gave the ball to Kone.

The French player then took a first-time shot that hit Morten Frendrup, causing the ball to slightly turn before sliding to the left side of the goal.

Roma continued to play offensively which made the Genoa defense clubbed. In the 31st minute, Ferguson who strengthened the I Lupi advantage.

He took advantage of Genoa player Ruslan Malinovskyi's mistake who wanted to throw the ball. But the ball was received by Soule who immediately shot into the goal.

Only the Argentine's effort could be thwarted, which made the ball rebound. The opportunity was immediately taken by Ferguson who ran to greet the ball to change the score to 3-0.

The score remained until the first half ended even though Kone had a good chance but could be stopped by Sommariva.

In the second half, Roma slowed down the game. However, they still dominated the game.

Even Roma almost added a goal when Bryan Cristante got the chance. But his half-volley shot could be stopped by the goalkeeper and only resulted in a corner kick.

Genoa themselves could only narrow the gap when Jeff Ekhator beat goalkeeper Mile Svilar after Aaron Martin's free kick in the 87th minute. The score became 3-1 and lasted until the final whistle.
