JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi managed to make a sweet debut in the 2025 SEA Games by defeating fourth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh to reach the quarter-finals.

The Bali-born athlete struggled to rise from the failure of the first game to win with the final scores 16-21, 22-20, and 21-14 at Thamasat Rangsit Gymnasium 4, Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, afternoon WIB.

"This is my first time at the SEA Games and the first time against Thuy Linh. I saw him before the match here and he was not easy to beat and was a senior player," said Dhinda after the match.

When he lost the first game, Dhinda actually performed well after playing tight early in the game. He managed to lead two points at the time of the interval and made the lead wide to 15-9, but failed to keep the momentum.

Dhinda then managed to dominate the second game by winning from the start. Although the opponent had equalized the score to 20-20, he was finally able to get out of the pressure to force the match to continue into the deciding game.

Furthermore, in the third game, Dhinda again faced a tight match and had to be two points behind during the break. He then scored five points in a row and continued to lead until he locked the win.

"I was tense because I really wanted to win, I wanted to prove I could even though I just debuted. In the first game, actually at the beginning I had the right pattern, but when I was far ahead, I changed it," said Dhinda.

In the quarter-finals, Dhinda will face Wong Ling Ching. The Malaysian women's singles got tickets for the last eight after eliminating Insyirah Khan from Singapore with a score of 21-16 and 21-15.

Dhinda is on a tough track to reach the women's singles finals. If she manages to reach the semifinals, she will most likely meet Thailand's second seed, Ratchanok Intanon.

"All athletes must expect a champion and get a gold medal. If you look at the draw results, my target is at least to get a bronze medal," said Dhina.
