JAKARTA The Executive Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) ensures careful preparation to meet the targets set by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) for the 2025 SEA Games.

The Secretary-General of PBSI, Ricky Soebagdja, said that the target of the two gold medals given by the Menpora was a strong impetus for the federation to work more disciplined and professionally.

"We welcome the targets set by the Government and ensure that every athlete comes down in the best condition and is ready to make a maximum contribution to Indonesia," he said in a statement received.

Badminton is one of Indonesia's mainstay sports in the sporting event involving Southeast Asian countries. However, previously PBSI only set a target of securing one gold medal.

The target then turned into two gold medals according to Menpora Erick Thohir's wishes. Responding to this, PBSI decided to change the squad to be sent to the White Elephant Country.

Ricky said that in addition to technical preparation, PBSI also strengthened support off the field through meeting nutritional needs, physiotherapy, analysis of video matches, and close coordination with the medical team.

"We are optimistic that Indonesia will be able to achieve the target. Badminton has always been the pride of Indonesia. Therefore, we want to ensure that this tradition of achievement continues," he said.

To meet the target, PBSI decided to include Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the 2025 SEA Games squad.

The two representatives replaced the men's doubles who won the Australian Open 2025 title, Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, and the women's singles Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan.

In the previous SEA Games edition in Cambodia, Indonesia came out to become the overall champion in badminton. At that time, the Red-White Team triumphed with four gold medals in the individual number and one in the men's team.

The 2025 SEA Games will take place on 9-20 December. Indonesia will send 996 athletes with a target of bringing home approximately 85 gold medals to pursue third place in the final standings.
