PSSI Sets Target To Bring Home Two Medals From The 2025 SEA Games

JAKARTA The All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has set a target of bringing home two medals from the 2025 SEA Games, one silver each from the men's team and bronze from the women's team.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, in a press conference related to Indonesia's preparations and targets to face the biennial event on Friday, November 21, 2025.

"From football, PSSI yesterday proposed a bronze medal for the women, then in his men's team a silver medal. That's what was conveyed to us from the evaluation results," he said.

From the sport (sports) of football, Indonesia is the defending champion in the men's team. While in Cambodia, the Garuda Muda squad managed to climb the highest podium ending a 32-year gold drought.

The women's team in Cambodia did not take part. The Garuda Pertiwi squad actually existed at the time of the group draw, but was not long ago declared withdrawn by the host.

Erick said that overall Indonesia would send 996 athletes to the 2025 SEA Games. This number adjusts the target set.

"The target (Indonesia's finish is in third place, so we push (drive). Kemenpora is desperately combing the budget of up to 60 billion rupiahs because we want to be ranked third," he said.

The 2025 SEA Games will take place on December 9-20 in three major cities of Thailand, namely Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla. This is the holding of the 33rd edition.

Indonesia has set a target to bring home approximately 85 gold medals from the multi-branch sporting event. All sports are expected to contribute medals there.
