After Winning The Title From Della Maddalena, Makhachev: This Is A Dream

JAKARTA - The champion title was won by Islam Makhachev from the hands of Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, Sunday, November 16. Successfully becoming the owner of the UFC welterweight world title Makhachev admitted that it was like a dream.

The meeting with Della Maddalena took place in New York, where Makhachev managed to appear dominant since the first round. He managed to achieve an absolute victory (55-45, 55-45, 55-45) despite failing to make a Della Maddalena knockout.

After the duel, Makhachev could not express his joy for winning the UFC world title after his debut in the welterweight.

"This is a dream," Makhachev said after the UFC coach and legend, Khabib Nurmagomedov, draped two belts around his shoulders.

"All the hard work I have done for these two belts. I am very happy. This belt is very heavy and I like it. I worked hard for this moment. My life has changed," said Makhachev, quoted from MMA Fighting, Sunday, November 16.

In this fight, Makhachev did rely more on ground fighting which was the key to his success. However, he emphasized that the victory over Della Maddalena was in line with plan.

"Without a load, five rounds non-stop, I can grapple, I can do whatever I want. This is my plan. This is not a secret. All my opponents know this and nothing can stop it," Makhachev said.

Meanwhile, Della Maddalena chose to leave the octagon after being declared defeated by a score count. The Australian fighter was disappointed that his championship belt was lost to Makhachev.

Della Maddalena failed to defend the UFC welterweight title which was previously won from the hands of Belal Muhammad.
