Inter Milan Coach Supports Goalkeeper Martinez After Fatal Accident

JAKARTA - Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu has provided public support to goalkeeper Josep Martinez after being involved in a fatal road accident.

A man died last week after his electric wheelchair collided with the car driven by the 27-year-old Spaniard.

Authorities are investigating the situation surrounding the incident that occurred in Como Province. Police said the wheelchair appeared to have turned into the vehicle lane.

Martinez, who was Yann Sommer's coating, was not included in Inter's squad's 3-0 win in Serie A over Fiorentina the following night before becoming a substitute who was not played in a 2-1 win at Verona's home on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

"We have to be there for him, support him, and help him get through this. It's a very difficult time. I don't want this to happen to anyone."

"He is in a sensitive situation. The most important thing is that we are by his side and help him find peace again."

"Life doesn't always go according to our wishes and it takes real strength to get through a moment like this," Chivu told a news conference ahead of the Champions League match against Kairat Almaty.

Inter, last season's Champions League runners-up, started the campaign this season with a win over Ajax, Slavia Prague, and Union Saint-Gilicoise.

They will host the Kazakhstan club at Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday, November 6, 2025, early morning WIB.

Kairat, who beat Celtic on his way to qualify for the league phase, has only picked up one point from a possible nine-point lead.
